Lost Hour / Sejam Yang Hilang

August 13, 2017

This poem was published in One Thousand and One Nights in 2014. It was featured on BooksActually’s Tumblr pageThe Malay translation is made by Alfian Sa’at and appears here with his permission.

Lost Hour

As our eyes trembled to close,
we found a new word upon our lips.
It rolled like a mystery inside
the room of two mouths, warm
with desire, silent as memory.
We grew a dark sensation then.
The tips of our fingers carved
into each other’s backs in terror.
For an hour, I saw you from
within my mouth, beautiful as
a poem without a reader.

Sejam Yang Hilang

Ketika mata kita tutup menggeletar
Kita terjumpa kata yang baru di atas bibir.
Kata itu bergolek seperti misteri di dalam
Kamar yang dibentuk oleh sepasang mulut, hangat
Dengan keinginan, senyap bagai kenangan.
Kita mula melahirkan perasaan gelita.
Hujung jari-jari kita cemas mencengkam
Badan belakang masing-masing.
Selama sejam, aku ternampak engkau
Dari dalaman mulutku, indah sebagai
Puisi tanpa pembaca.
