Arrival Hall / 入境厅

This poem first appeared in One Thousand and One Nights (2014). The Chinese translation is made by Andy Ang, also known as 孤星子, and featured here with his permission.

Arrival Hall

Then I spot a likeness
on the other side of glass,
the vignette of a woman,
the castaway of some dream
that is starting again.

The weight of your absence
has been making itself heard
and it sounds like vacuum.
There are no more words left,
only the motion of things:

a carousel stirs to life,
an awaiting crowd waits,
and you fidget for calm.
I watch myself return
to bend over the rail.

A bolt of sudden panic! –
but this uncertainty is
merely another point
of no return, nothing else.
Then you are here, face to face.

入境厅

然后,我找到了相似处
在玻璃的另一边
暗角的那女子。
如被放逐的梦般
又要开始了——

你缺失的身影,是如此萦绕
使致我还不时听见你
这声音果如真空一样。
已不再有任何文字了,只剩下
眼前的事物在不断运行:

旋转木马如生命般旋转
那该等待的人们继续等待
而你则以焦躁不安期待着从容。
我看着自己的归来
缓缓地翻过那围栏

这正是突如其来的一惊——!
而这个不确定性
也只不过是个转折
是个有去无回的转折,仅此
然后你已在此,面面相视。
