Book Overview:

Half a century of English for educational, administrative, creative, and other purposes sees the language secure and thriving in virtually all former colonies of Great Britain. Even where there were strong tides of nationalism trying to swamp it, some with official or semi-official support, subsequent global economic, financial, and technical/scientific realities have generated a new and strong lease on life for English, turning it into World Englishes.

The profile of the language has changed as its role and influence grew in the ex-colonies. In Writing Asia Volume 1, we see 44 contributors sharing their views, an outcome of a symposium devoted to “The Writers Sense of the Contemporary”.
